Connect with the Oasis Community

At Oasis Church, we offer a variety of venues through which you can serve and be served. We believe serving is a two-way street, where we give and receive. We desire to build up and help people pursue their God-given purpose by providing relevant and meaningful ministries that serve them.

Oasis Children's Ministry

"Jesus loves the little children and we do too!"

We believe that children are capable of having their very own relationship with God through his son Jesus.  We believe children can be empowered by the Holy Spirit to live their lives in service for Him. We believe that children are equal members of our community of faith. We believe it takes a “spiritual village” to raise a child. We believe it is the role of the church to encourage and equip parents as the main spiritual influencers of their children.  It is because of these beliefs that Oasis Community Church has a Children's Ministry.

The mission of Children’s Ministry is to partner with parents and to provide age-segregated and multi-generational opportunities for children to grow spiritually within a community of faith.  We do this in the following ways.

  • UpStreet: Sunday morning children’s program for infants-5th graders (link to below)
  • Kids’ Club: Wednesday night small group for 3rd-5th graders (contact vharlan@oasischurch.org for more information)
  • Illuminate: Monthly evening services that welcome elementary children and youth to worship with their families.
  • Community Worship: On the last Sunday of the month, children 2 years old and older are brought into the auditorium to worship with their parents and the entire community.
  • Middle school & High school ministry
  • Marriage & Family Life Groups
  • Marriage enrichment opportunities
  • Parenting workshops
  • Special Services: Baby dedication, Baptism (for older children & youth) Christmas program and graduation ceremony
  • Family inclusive events: (community impact service projects, mother daughter brunch…)

UpStreet

UpStreet is our Sunday morning children’s program for infants-5th grade.

UpStreet is a volunteer-based co-op ministry. It is our goal to create a safe, relational, relevant environment that is effective for spiritual growth.   It is our mission to provide children with a foundational Christian education along with age-appropriate opportunities to transform their inward personal relationship with God into outward acts of service. We achieve this by offering a variety of experiences for children during the Sunday morning UpStreet service.

Kids’ Worship- All children one year old through 5th grade participate in a time of music and movement in the Duplex.  It is a great time for the UpStreet kids to come together as a community and experience God as a large group.

Creative Communication- A Creative Communicator (storyteller) visits the toddlers, preschool & elementary classrooms and uses various teaching methods (drama, puppets, storytelling, interactive activities...) to relay Bible stories and biblical truths.

Prayer Room- Children 3 years old through 5th grade take turns each week visiting our Prayer Room. A Prayer Leader facilitates a time of prayer with age-appropriate instruction and interaction.
Interactive Activities- Each week the main Bible point is reinforced though small group activities such as crafts, games, and hands-on projects.

Handouts for Home Use- Each week we offer two resources so that parents can integrate and reinforce the week’s lesson at home.  Driving Home the Point is passed out to families with the church bulletin.  This handout gives ideas for parents with children ranging from infants through teenagers.  Home Connect papers are given to each child in their class to take home.  This sheet has activities specifically geared for your child’s age group.

Helpful Information about UpStreet

  • Kids Welcome Center - Feel free to come by to get your questions answered.
  • Pagers can be obtained at the Kids Welcome Center. All parents of children in diapers and visitors will get a pager. Parents will be paged if their child is injured or inconsolable.
  • Parents Sign-in their children after 9:40 at their class according to age or grade.
  • Parents will receive a Claim Card with their child’s name on it. Children will only be released to the adult with the appropriate Claim Card. (We discourage toys from home to be brought into the class room)
  • Active Baby Room: infants and crawlers. Babies will be moved to the The Quiet Baby room if they need to be rocked or if they are sleeping.
  • 1 year olds Room: walking 1 year olds
  • 2 year old Room
  • 3 year old Room
  • 4 & 5 year old Room
  • The Duplex: 1st & 2nd graders, 3rd-5th graders
  • Children need to be signed in and out by an adult (or sibling 16+). We ask parents to pick up children as soon as the service is over and to wait outside the door when collecting your child.
  • Children need to be under adult supervision at all times. Children are not to be in a classroom without approved adult supervision. Parents should supervise their children in the halls and bathroom.
  • Children in the service: If you choose to keep your child with you in the service, we ask that you sit towards the back of the auditorium and supervise them from distracting others. There is a Comfort Room located at the back of the auditorium.  It is equipped with a TV monitor and is available so that parents may enjoy the service with their small children.

UpStreet Policies & Procedures

  • UpStreet is run on a co-op volunteer basis.  We ask that every parent who brings their child to UpStreet on a regular basis come to a training meeting and be prepared to volunteer. We have a variety of ways to serve according to your abilities and interests.
  • All classroom volunteers (over 18) go through a background screening.
  • Volunteers will not go into a bathroom stall with the child unless the child asks for help and the stall door MUST remain open at all times.
  • Diapering is done in the open space of the classroom only.
  • Correction of unwanted behavior: We want to spend our energy relating to the children with positive attention and effective prevention. Our expectations for behavior can be summed up by the following: Be kind-Be safe-Be involved. We will work with the parent to help the child succeed in meeting these expectations.
  • For health reasons “do unto others…” and please do not bring your child into the class if they have one or more of the following:
  • been around others with contagious sicknesses (ex. siblings or class mates with pink eye, lice, chicken pox...)
  • have had a fever within the last 24 hours (even controlled with medicines)
  • started antibiotics within the last 48 hours
  • cloudy mucus, persistent cough, open lesions or rashes.
